Background check vendor: Georgia Applicant Processing Service (GAPS) via Idemia/IdentoGO — service code 2TGJY5. Exam waiver: None — but a valid NREMT registration is mandatory.
Understand that Georgia has no reciprocity process
Georgia does not have a reciprocity process. To apply for a Georgia license you must hold a current NREMT registration and file an initial license application with the Georgia Office of EMS and Trauma.
Hold full NREMT registration at the level you are applying for
Georgia requires a valid NREMT registration for every applicant at the EMT-R, EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic level. If your NREMT registration is not current or your out-of-state license has expired, Georgia states there is no license you are eligible for — you would need an initial education program and the NREMT exam.
Submit the Initial License application in the Georgia LMS
Create an account in the Georgia EMS License Management System (mygemsis.org/lms) and submit the Initial license application for your level. Paper applications are not accepted. The fee is $75.00, plus a $2.75 surcharge if you pay by credit or debit card.
Register for the GAPS fingerprint background check
All applicants must use the Georgia Applicant Processing Service (GAPS) through Idemia/IdentoGO under service code 2TGJY5, and Georgia does not accept criminal history reports from any other source. The Office of EMS and Trauma will not approve your GAPS registration until you have submitted and paid for your license application, and fingerprint results are valid for only 30 days.
Upload your CPR card, residency form, and ACLS card
Submit a front-and-back copy of a current signed CPR card from an accepted provider, a notarized Verification of Lawful U.S. Residency form plus the document shown to the notary, and a current ACLS card if you are applying as a paramedic.
Request out-of-state license verification for every license you have held
If you have ever been licensed as any type of healthcare provider in any U.S. state or territory, complete the Out-of-State Verification Form for each license in each state and send it to that licensing authority so the validation returns directly to Georgia. Georgia requires verification from every state where you have ever held a license, not just your current one.
Await approval
Georgia approves a complete application in 5 to 7 business days, and incomplete applications expire — so submit the fee, fingerprints, and documents together. Your Georgia license expires the same year as your NREMT registration.

Not directly. Georgia does not accept NREMT alone — you may need to complete a state-specific exam, additional continuing education, or a refresher course. Contact Georgia Office of EMS & Trauma to confirm the pathway.
EMT reciprocity in Georgia typically takes 2–4 Weeks after Georgia Office of EMS & Trauma receives your complete application, background check results, and NREMT verification.
Georgia does not publish a fixed total for this route, so the cost varies. Confirm the current state application fee (currently $75) and the fingerprint background check cost with Georgia Office of EMS & Trauma before you apply.
Generally no. You must hold an active Georgia certification or a valid compact privilege before practicing. Some employers may offer a non-clinical role during processing, but you cannot provide patient care until Georgia Office of EMS & Trauma issues your certification.
Requirements, fees, and timelines are estimates for planning. Always confirm directly with Georgia Office of EMS & Trauma before applying.
